Creative-Critical Thinking through art builds character resilience. All our programs meet Tennessee State Education Standards. In 2022, more than 650 youth participated!

Rag Rug Workshop

Arts Educator Elaine Schatzline-Behr led a Rag Rug Workshop on August 26, 2023 at Clearfork Community Institute in Eagan, TN. The 14 participants learned how to make their own rag rugs and carry on this rich Appalachian Cultural Tradition.

Wynn School Mural

Children using the concept of “Todays Learners Become Tomorrow’s Leaders” drew, designed and learned painting skills led by William Sarno to create their own, unique school mural.

Gnome Doors

The Campbell Culture Coalition (C3) invites you on an outdoors tour of Campbell County guided by the Art of Campbell County students. Each “Gnome Door” serves as a trail-marker including information about the Artist who created it, information about the tree where the gnome lives (sometimes the gnome itself).The goal of this project is to have people explore the Outdoors in Campbell County and celebrate our young Artists!

Quilting

Middle school students from Wynn Habersham and Jacksboro Middle school designed and learned basic quilting skills led by Sally Newhall and Terri Chaniott. Two quilts are on display at Justice Center, Jacksboro.

Bridging Generations

A Library of Congress, copywrited book from Campbell County High School seniors English honors class wrote stories from someone in an older generation related to their family. They interviewed their subjects and wrote stories about that person and how they influenced the student. Led by Lisa Copeland (teacher) and a panel of distinguished local writers.

Elk Tile Mural

Children designed, drew and worked on 6″ x 6″ Italian mosaic tiles to create the five-foot by five-foot mosaic elk mural exhibited permanently at the Justice Center, Jacksboro. Then, all County students were asked to submit a name for the elk, a major element in the County logo. The name Spirit was chosen, submitted by students from Elk Valley School.

Strung Together

Approximately 75 students in three schools participated in this program that featured found items used to create a single-string musical instrument. Programs at Wynn, Elk Valley and Valley View culminated in a mini Blues concert. Three instruments are exhibited at the Justice Center, Jacksboro.

3D Art

Epic Home School Project older student artists used clay, decorated masks, made feathers from pencils and duct tape, and created dioramas in small tins.

Younger student artists took basic shapes and created landscapes.

Faces Around the World

Jellico High School students researched the ‘look’ (appearance) and customs of people around the world, then each created three separate but interchangeable panels depicting ‘eye’ ‘nose’ and ‘mouth’ to bring attention to facial similarities of the human race.

Outdoor Classroom/Nature Labs

Outdoor Classroom/Nature Labs provide daily hands-on learning about growing usable and sustainable food. These areas sometimes feature organic gardens, ponds, native plant pollinator areas, composting, chicken coops, and student art – all installed by staff and students.
